Title: Pre-fill fuel filter with 1-K kerosene?
Post by: EvanR on November 06, 2006, 06:39:57 pm
Just about to do my first fuel filter change in my VW/Volvo 2.4l (1984). I have been reading around here for some time, but this is my first post.

I see posts suggesting pre-filling a new fuel filter with ATF. Which is fine and dandy, but I don't have any. On the back porch is a nice jug of 1-K Kerosene for filling the space heater.

Kerosene is pretty close to Diesel fuel, no? Is there some reason this is a bad idea?

kerosene is similar but different, it is much lighter and combusts at lower temps, i would suggest not using it, but it's better than starting with a dry filter i suppose,  you could always just fill the filter with diesel fuel or heating oil.  for what a 10 minute trip to the pump would cost i would just use diesel or heating oil.  but like i said kerosene will work. haha, just do w/e, i don't think anything will get hurt either way
