Title: Getting my head decked
Post by: burn_your_money on October 28, 2006, 01:34:08 pm
Since I'm pretty sure my head is warped I'm thinking about getting it shaved within spec. Now because I'm a cheap ass, I'll be getting my friend (machinest) who has no experience doing this kind of work to do it for me. Does he need to machine it so it's perfectly flat, or just within spec? What else goes into shaving a head? Maybe once I hear what's all involved I won't get him to do it

Not only flat but it also needs to be perfectly level or the cam belt can walk among other possible problems. The Pre-Chambers also require special attention when surfacing.

yea stake the prechambers in the head in a star pattern
using a head gasket as a guide so you dont get on the sealing areas
and have them use a grinding stone, not a conventional milling machine metal bit
thats how mine was done
i took off like .005
but my head was flat,it just had some minor scratches from some previous dummy that i wanted cleaned up
if its too warped+u  mill it  you could jack the cam bearings up
