Title: Need advice on stretch bolt torque (1992 Jetta)
Post by: larry104 on October 16, 2006, 04:10:30 pm
I tightened the head bolts in the proper sequence to the recommended torque using this procedure:

30 ft-lb
44 ft-lb
additional 1/2 turn

It says now to warm up the motor, then do an additional 1/4 turn in sequence.  Is this really necessary? Has anyone here not done it? What happened?

it is very necessary and will probably loose a head gasket in the near future

I only started it once and haven't driven it. I'll do the 1/4 turn before I drive it. Thank you.

warm it up to exactly what the bentley says to and go form there. The re-torquing 1000 kms later is the contraversial one
