Title: 78 diesel air in fuel line questions

I just picked up a clean 78 rabbit diesel that was sittin for about 8 months because the freeze plug had holes in it. I replaced that then put a couple gallons of diesel and filled up the coolant. I went to fire it up and it started but it was very rough and wouldnt keep idle then I saw that there was air bubbles in the fuel line that goes from the fuel filter (looks like) to the injectors its a small plastic hose. I was wondering how to get the air out of the line? Any help is much appreciated.

Remove the "OUT" bolt on the injection pump and fill the pump with with automatic transmission fluid or clean diesel. Replace the "OUT" bolt.  Buy a new fuel filter. Fill the new fuel filter with ATF or clean diesel. Replace filter. Crank. And enjoy.

Okay Coke, Why fill the pump with ATF?? and not diesel?

ATF cleans up the IP and injectors and burns just as well as diesel and is usually easier to get/pour

Well I got it running smoothly last night, after replacing all of the rubber fabric hoses on the injectors and the one that runs to the fuel filter to the pump. So I drove it around for about 10 miles then came back and changed the oil and put timing cover back onthen went to start it back up and it wouldnt fire up, and the glow plug light would not cycle on...is there a relay that may have gone bad...any other ideas? What do you guys think about schucks glow plugs $9.99 a piece compared to bosh $21.00.

get bosch. Always go qaulity with import parts like glows/injectors etc

bosch at 21 bucks???
oh wait canadian...but still.....thats alot
i  can get bosch idi glow plugs in cleveland for like 11 bucks a piece
i dropped a 50 spot for 4 plugs+got some change back........
they told me that a few years ago bosch dropped some of their prices
i can remember like 10+years ago when the glow plugs were like 18 a piece....

I'd keep looking. I found some for $15 CAD, so $60 CAD for the set
