Title: Overfilling Oil in a 89 Turbo Diesel
Post by: JKnowledge on October 09, 2006, 06:42:49 pm
I have a friend who overfilled ( severely, I believe) the oil in his 89 Turbo Diesel, and now it won't start. What damage would have been done to this engine by overfilling it that would cause it to not start?

thats not good... what could have happened is some oil leaked by his rings into the cylinders, or the pressure from having too much oil may have went into areas such as... cylinders...

did he drain it, refill it, and still cannot start it???

i bet you if you drained oil out and let it sit for a while like a day it would run down the rings. whats happening is probably some is sittin on top of the piston not alowwing for the piston to reach top dead center . Nothing else can really happen by overfilling accept blowing out seals and engine run away.
