i am building my stereo system slowly. and i have hit a wall. not necessarily a wall but if i push any more i am going to be going thru alternators left and right. not to mention batteries.
does anyone know of any alternators bigger than my MASSIVE 65amp (or whatever stock is)???? something that will fit right on?
i remember hearing something about a 90 amp. which would be better.. i'd take it to get rebuilt and then have it rebuilt to output slightly more power. the guy was saying about 18% more power.
or is there something else like a 120 or 130 that will fit right on???\

what year is your car? Ive got a 96 jetta and altrom lists a 120 amp alternator that I can get for it, mine came stock with a 90a one.

I just checked for my 86 Golf 1.6 NA, and this site lists a 90 amp.

my jetta is a 92.
i have been told that some come with 90 amps. which would be good as long as i can have it rebuilt to output even more.
it would be nice to find something like a 130 or around there that would fit right up.

looking there they show a 90 amp for me with AC... but i don't have a/c.. would it still work fine?

92, that's still V-belts, right?
Friend of mine in London used a AC Delco alternator, mounted it upside down in his late 80's golf. It fit with little or no modification to the existing brackets.
That would allow you to run a higher output easily available unit that's also easy & cheap to upgrade/repair.
My previous 87 Jetta had a 'reconfigured' Delco on it when I got it. Bosch styled case with all Delco guts, even had the tach output terminal off one of the diode legs. It was at least 90A IIRC.
New regulator once, $8 8)

i got a 90 amp and it looks like itll fit right in place of my 55 amp alternator on my 79 rabbit
i already test fit it,and the pulleys line up,but the bolt for the pivot point is different,,
ill get it fabbed up,dont worry
but i dont know what kind of 90 amp it came from
its a 90 degree mount,and it has id say a medium depth pulley
ill haveta get pics when i run across it.......

My lincoln diesel (524TD engine) had a ford 90 amp alternator driven by a single 11mm v-belt, I should have bought shares in the gates rubber company... The belt had to be fiddle string tight and only lasted a month or 2. If you're serious about a larger alternator I would suggeat a serpentine conversion, v-belts are not up to the task.

i heard of a guy running a 300 amp alternator in his NA diesel... kept wondering why it was stalling out at idle.. hahahaha
you can pretty much fit whatever you want as long as space permits.
