Title: glow plugs for TDI

I have a Golf TDI and need to replace a glow plug.  How can I tell which glow plug is bad?  How can I tell if I have a BEW or ALH engine code?  How hard is it to replace a glow plug?

You should fill in your profile a bit so we can help you.  The year of the car is important.

You can tell what one is bad through a resistance check, could also be the harness, the yare prone to corrossion.

yea resistance check is good or if you are a little "rocks+sticks "like me
then,take a test light,and hook one end to batt+,and with the glow harness removed from the plugs,just touch the tip of the plug in the head
you get a light,its good
no light,its bad

yep that's how i do mine, some people say that they may still make a light work, that's when the resistance check is good, but i have never seen one that lit the test light and had a strange resistance reading.  you can also check by cycling ur glow plugs then feeling to see which ones are warm

I've also heard that it is good to replace them all at the same time since they are run in parallel (I think) and this would mean one or more would be hotter than others depending on the resistance.

i know on power stroke fords the older the plugs get
,they can start to "short" and draw too much current and toast up the glow plug harness that goes thru the v/c gaskets,what crap
yea maybe changing as a set is a good idea,but the tdi is so easy,you can change 1 at a time
