Title: WTB: Diesel turbo parts
Post by: Bmble B on October 03, 2006, 12:49:43 pm
I'm interested in buying all the parts required to convert my N/A rabbit into a TD.

This should include:

KKK turbo
Exhaust mani
Intake mani
Oil lines (and pan if you have one tapped for lines)
Downpipe
TD Injection pump

Also I'm interested in:

Intercooler and intercooler piping

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.  I'm sure I'll be hanging out here a lot soon.

You also need the oil filter flange (that's what the pressurized oil line to the turbo is connected to), and optionally the oil cooler/heat exchanger.  Try to get the flange used, because a new one costs about $150.  You could also consider tapping your stock one.  The threads are M10x1.

Here's what to really do... Go to vagcat.com and pay your $5.00 for a month's subscription to all of the illustrations and part numbers.  Then take those part numbers and log on to 1stvwparts.com.  This is a VW dealer that sells parts for only 20% over their cost.  Plus you can look up part numbers/costs all night long... no need to keep calling the dealer.  Be aware that some of the parts might come up on the 1stvwparts website, even though they may no longer be available (NLA).

I've done this N/A to TD conversion myself.  It's worked out pretty well so far, but I'm using a VNT-17 turbo, and I've had to build an electronic controller for it.  I'm still working on it.

yea definitely get the oil cooler at least (better than nothing) or get a good oil/air cooler, otherwise you will have lots of problems with turbo temps.

yes look for jakes VNT rabbit thread... it's amazing!  He had idle boost on the VNT!  plus the EGT's were kept at around 1000F pre-turbine which is amazing.

Very good information/read right here:

Well this is what i have that I wont need. All used.

Intake and exhaust manifolds (Jetta Exhaust and Intake, Quantem Intake)
Turbo Oil return line
Turbo Oil Pan
A PassengerPerformance Down pipe for a MK2 (uncoated)
Oil Filter flange

My oil coolers were in a box that got moved near where someone in my shop decided to do some sand blasting. I woudnt trust them.

Let me know what ya need and an offer. I would ask about 60% of what PassPerf wants for their pipes for mine.

I also have a Audi 5K intercooler I would let go for pretty cheap.

Plus shipping of course.

Why don't you just buy my 84 Jetta Turbo Diesel complete.  Then you'll have everything, included the piston oil squirters.

If you are interested in a variable gate turbo I have an IHI variable gate ball bearing water cooled turbo that i would be willing to part with. for the manifold I just fliped my NA dual outlet upside down and then made an adapter.  you can take a look at it here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2223781/1
Let me know if you are interested in that turbo I mentioned, its their RH4 I think, its about the size of a T25 and the surge limit is 27 psi of boost

later

How much are you looking for it?  I'm contemplating waiting on doing all this later.  Right now I'm more concerned about finding a 5 speed for it

at this point, I'd let the whole thing go for $800.  you'd have your 5 speed too.

Winter's coming and I can't store this thing as I'm selling my house.  If I don't sell it, I'll force myself to do the drivetrain pull and throw the car out.

I'm actually moving the car on Saturday.
