here are some vids of smokeydub's jetta at the strip. This was with the leaking, crappy holset junk turbo that could barely make 10psi.

3rd video is a high clutch dump. man that was slow i think it did like a 17.3 or something it kept getting worse and worse. by the end of the night it wouldnt make more then 5 psi.
-
hey smokey, did i post my a2 pics yet???its filthy though...
like yers, but a 2 door, and nowhere as near fast as your 5 pisseye turbo
-
i dont recall see your a2
-
ill get em uploaded sooner or later, in a day or 2
yours reminds me of mine

cant wait till my garage is done and winter comes. i can finish my car. I wanna take everything apart and watersand and polish everything, and build a complete franken engine ie k26/24 hybrid with a 1.9 head and some nitrous :D
-
very nice lookin ride :)
I wonder how well your engine will start with the 1.9 head. I've wanted to do that conversion as well :)
-
well im only going to be driving it when its warm out (summer car) so i dont think it will be that bad. i am getting dr.diesel to help considering hes the only one i know of that hasnt had any problems with that combo. and thanks for the compliment.
-
Once Mark's (Malone) new, @ the time, motor was broken in he had no problems with that swap either.
-
hmm, after i get a 2.5" down pipe, an intercooler installed, governor, and some 4b cummins goodies on my injector pump (which with all that stuff i'm sure i'd easily be in the 15's cause i am evil haha) i'd like to do a 1.9 head swap with studs and a metal gasket on my car, it will be a bit of a pita since my car is a solid lifter but hehe hopefully i can get this all done next year. but i also dunno about putting all that money into it, when a tdi-m seems to look alot more optimistic.

Yeah, drove from new to 10,000km through the Winter season without starting difficulties with a 1-hole headgasket, and that was with a shaved deck on the 1.9 head for lower compression. A standard 1.9 head on a 1.6 block is nothing to worry about. :)
-
you shaved the head for lower compression :?:
-
you shaved the head for lower compression :?:
Its Canadian engine building...it works and its best to not even ask. :P
-
haha

yea lowering the compression ratio on your motor can make it perform better. The only real reason our motors have 23:1 is for cold starts. I said before on this forum somewhere that when my mechanic was in Poland there were these old Russian trucks that would start on gasoline, and then run on diesel (lol I know... must have smoked like a chimney! but they still ran!)
I believe our motors could run sufficiently with 17:1 cr, or maybe lower.
Once I get my zero-start coolant heater hooked up, and my marine battery+inverter, I won't have to worry about cold starts whatsoever... My car starts great now, but who knows about when its -25C... The heat will be great for short trip as well. Any small amount of heat you can throw at the motor before a cold start is going to help keep it alive longer. :)

I had one running on 16.4:1. even with 30psi, it was kinda sluggish. dropped two sizes in headgasket, and it felt better, but still not enough. I think probably 19 or 20:1 might be a good middle ground for dedicated high boost performance setups.
-
can you explain the reason why the engine can better perform when it got lower compression?
Greetz, Benjamin
-
The idea is that with lower compresion you can feed it more boost/air before it goes KABOOOM on your morning commute.

Keeping all the added volume in the prechamber helps greatly with starting and low RPM running. Using head gaskets or machining of the rods/pistons to lower the compression leaves a lot of dead space that isn't really involved in the combustion process, the air in there is wasted and tubulence is reduced because the "squish"into the prechamber is lost. 18:1 is probably workable if the prechambers are enlarged to get it. Andy has done this, lots and lots of work though...

is CR lowering only needed when you planning to drive +30psi?
or is there another factor than turbopressure to?
Greetz, Benjamin
-
also i believe people ar lowering the cr to lower egts
-
ok i know,it took long enough
nice single rounds with crystal clears+red citylights
i got a upper grille spoiler,i gotta paint it
the car is filthy,i need to detail it,its been stored for a year, this is washed at least
(http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2982/clnrdcar002wj1.jpg)
i just took blackout tape to make the fog light area look like a duct
i used vht tint on the front markers+banana lamps
(http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/4703/clnrdcar005rj9.jpg)

i wanna take out the cheap repro rad support+bead blast and repaint it,this will clean up nice,i sprayed most of it down with cosmoline
its just a 1.9 idi with a 1.6 head,and altitude compensation
(http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2953/redcar009dv7.jpg)

i just got it out of storage+i have some minor stuff to fix on it,the red car that is.
the throttle sticks ,its def. at the pump,im gonna remove the springs+clean em up+stuff
the shifter is stiff, should be fun to fix, cause i may have to remove the exhaust heat shield in the tunnel
and the brakes are real spongy+sink,i may need a master,i didnt see any leaks
so yea next spring ill be cruisin in my slow vw,just lovin it
edit:where can i get that door weatherstripping in the(this) picture thats coming off?? it crumbles in my hands
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1815/redcar007rg4.jpg
-
the weatherstripping should be listed on the cross canada 9522
vw jetta 1985-92
-
really??good deal, cause im having a fun time finding some
i thought too its like 2-300 bucks
-
Didn't see any weather strip on cross canada... :(
-
I had a hard time finding that weatherstripping as well.
So last week I used "Goop" contact adhesive. This is some sort of outdoor formulation. I used tape every 4 inches to hold it tight and inplace (mine had come loose in one long strip) the entire length. It is on the passengerside so I do not know how well it will do with the doors in use (like the drivers side would). But it is holding up very well so far.

damn maybe they dont have it... I do know they have all the other parts I've ever needed... :(
i remember finding a site that specifically had weatherstripping and bumpers for vw golf/jettas...
not a bad idea since thats probably how my car is leaking :(
