Does anyone have any information on how mileage is effected if you put a turbo and intercooler on a NA engine but don't increase the fuel? The only thing I can think of is that the engine no longer needs to work to pull air into the cylinders as it will be forced in, thus increasing HP and since fuel consumption isn't increased that should increase mileage right?
Any thoughts?

thats exactly an eco diesel... i think they were 58 hp.

it will be the same as a turbo diesel, or the same as an ecodiesel if you don't change pump. if you're talking ecodiesel style i don't think it will effect mileage, and if anything like you are saying it would increas as the motor won't have to work as hard anymore. and the motor is much more effecient since some of its power is recycled by the turbo. but like i said, more power often means better mileage, assuming you drive the same as before, since you don't need to wind the gears out as much, you don't hang out certain rpms as much and such, you're in top gear sooner.
and with out the lda they still run very good, when my boost hose was popping off the intake manifolds nipple i would keep driving to get home, and it woud run pretty good

nice. So would a massive turbo help out the most for highway driving or would I be better with a more medium sized turbo?

stick the stock turbo on that is the best bet. or a real small on off of a 1.9. that way the power comes on sooner and it will be more efficient through the rpms.

Adding a turbo and intercooler will give you more horsepower, and make your engine more efficient. The turbo is great because you actually can increase your fuel mileage if you do things right. I know someone who turned an ECO diesel into a turbo diesel by swapping in the Turbo pump, but put a manual control valve in for the boost enrichment. It runs super lean all the time, and wont increase fuel unless you open the valve to let the boost pressure into the aneroid which in turn increases fuel.
You would have a very economical setup with a turbo and intercooler. I would, however, add an EGT gauge, keep the fueling down to a minimum and make sure your EGTs aren't too high. Remember, the NA was designed for just that. The turbo was designed to handle the extra heat and pressure.

i think it would run real cool and it wouldnt run enough pressure to worry about anything grenading. those n/a s are built like a brick *** house. :lol:

Would I be wisest to put a NA pump on my TD engine? Maybe the 1.9?
I like that vavle idea.. very clever. I guess I could just do that with my TD?

I would go with a turbo pump, with the boost aneroid. That way, you can install the control valve between the turbo and the pump and control when you want full boost power. That way, it will run nice and smooth while its leaned out, low smoke output, clean oil, and the good thing is, if you run it super lean, it'll clean the turbo out nice too. And when you wana hammer the loud pedal, open that valve and you got all the power you need. Its a great idea.
