Title: scirocco brakes, definetly recommended
Post by: RabbitJockey on September 17, 2006, 06:57:57 pm
so i swapped scirocco front brakes on to my car, and holy hell, what a difference, i highly recommend it to anyone running around with an a1 car.  it takes as much time as installing new calipers, and it's a very nice upgrade.

what size are mk3 rears? stock mk1 is 190mm (except caddy, 200mm) right?

the mk3s are 200, i think the mk1s are 180, i'm not sure but they're small and even my 14" wheels make them look tiny, i think i may need a different proporting valve for this though, the front wheels are definetly doing most the braking, and lock up while the rears won't lock up for me,  i kinda wonder if the big drums will help with that though

oh yah and caddies are 200mm's yes sir

I just picked up some 95 VR6 Passat spindles and brakes.

Ill try them out when I get the engine back together.

I have more crap then I need for one car...guess that means I need another car.

if i could find an early canadian passat with drums they had like 220mm drums on the ass end, but that's a needle in a hay stack

Quoting Trev0rbr: "if i could find an early canadian passat with drums they had like 220mm drums on the ass end, but that's a needle in a hay stack"

Hadn't heard that before. AFAIK all the early Passats (Dashers) & Audi 80s(Foxes) came with the 200mm drums. Theoretically, some really early/really cheap Golf 1/Rabbits came with 230mm front drum brakes, but I've never seen any.

OTOH many, if not most, of the 78-84 Audi 5000 models came with 230mm rear drums (4 x 108mm wheel lugs), that should be able to be retrofitted to A1, A2, B1, B2, and BX chassis without a huge hassle. Some even had externally-finned drums for additional cooling! [Lessee.. with the fins, they'd look like about 10.5" wide drums, shining through the wheel openings, not exactly tiny any more.] Seems like most ran off 22mm master cylinders.
