Title: Can I try retorquing my HG?
Post by: burn_your_money on September 10, 2006, 05:10:39 pm
I just did an engine swap last weekend because my engine had a blown headgasket and I didn't feel like pulling the head and I had a spare engine kicking around that did run fine.
The first time I fired up the new engine I saw a nice little trickle of coolant flow from between #3 and #4, closer to #4. Once the engine ran for about a minute it stopped. I didn't see it again so I figued I was in the clear.
I've got a puddle of coolant on my block again and my oil level has gone up. Can I try retorquing the HG before doing the whole swap (again) or is it pointless?

I reccomend not retorqueing the HG, even though the factory manual states that you should, I find sometimes after you retoque them you "unsettle" the headgasket causing it to shift and making a leak.
