Title: Max rpm on a 1.6td? [New mods coming]
Post by: klang on September 05, 2006, 08:38:02 am
Hey.
I have just adjusted my 1.6td pump, but, now that i get loads of turbopressure, I'd like to be on higher RPMs.
Is it the pump who stops the RPM or is it the camshaft?

If it is the pump, how do you adjust/modify this?

Regards.

the pump dont give the diesel, on something lke 2-3000rpm the governer will start kick in, you need to read the FAQ, "governermod", also read more power for a 1.6td/1.9td.
the camshaft also limits the rpm, but thats in higher rpm's, 935racer sell's race camshafts

i have revved into my fuel gauge were the rpm limit pin is inside of the tach with a stock cam shaft and the governor mod on my old 1.6td running 26 psi and lots of fuel.

Thanks for all of your answers.
I looked at the governors mod, I am going to go ahead and fix this.
Allthough, It feels like I'm loosing Turbopressure, I checked this with at gauge, and at 0,85 BAR (12 PSI), the pressure suddenly drops, and with loads of smoke

Anyways, could this problem be my BOV? Or is my adjusting of the pump that is causing this?
I know the BOV mod. Is this what I need to do?
The pump cant deliver enough fuel?

I just searched on the subject, and the BOV is suppose to blow off at 12PSI, so therefore I think my problem lies here, I'll check this out tomorrow..

its most likely the BOV.  no wait... its definitely the BOV :)

the BOV will dump all your precious boost air, and closes at around a couple of PSI boost.  Yea get that thing blocked off asap :)

some guys on here put a piece of wood on the BOV and use clamps to secure its position (forces the BOV to stay closed, since it opens outward)

nah, just get a 6mm X 20mm allen bolt, replace the spring thats in the BOV. Best 45 cents i ever spent  :D

i revved to 6000 some rpm before, but it was on accident, i was in 4th winding it out and went to go to fifth and i was absent minded at the time and i went to 3rd, lol i quickly depressed the clutch though, no harm done

i never had luck with the governor mod,i didnt like the way it drove
i didnt feel more power up top,and if you pushed the clutch in for a shift, the revs would "hang" at whever you revved it to,and wouldnt come down unless you were in gear and used the brakes to slow it down
theres more power in the max fuel screw and the adjustments made elsewhere to the pump

Please tell me more :)

I fixed the BOV, of well, i broke it, I got me all pissed of so it fell in to small pieces..heh..

Its now held together in a reall hillbilly-way, lots of glue and different bolts and nuts and washers..
but hey it works ;)

The difference after the BOV mod, is like night and day.
Its REALLY fun to drive a golf again, and i love the sound of the wastgate =)

I built a 2" system all the way with no mufflers...
Sweet sound.

I beat LOADS of gassers know, and if they get to close, I show some smoke ;)

I can actually hear the turbo spinning on idle rpm, I knewer dreamed of this effect, just adjusting the turbo / pump/ bigger exhaust..

Next step is to mount and intercooler, or what do you folks think?
What other changes can I do?

Regards, One really happy Klang :D

definitely do the intercooler.  it will make your car smoke less, so you can increase the fuel

heh, yeah, but I cant increase fueling no more, because my idle rpm goes high, and theres no more adjusting I can do on the idle, the bolt is gone =P

So if I increase fueling now, I get higher idle RPM... Is there any other way to adjust it?

Regards Klang

i think you can move the position of the lever on the throttle shaft,  but do a search and make sure ur 100% on it, cause you can eff ish up doing that

you know how your idle goes high like that?? yea its like that at hi revs with the gov mod
you can try moving the throttle lever 1 spline back, and then you will get some idle back,and/or be able to fuel more
sometimes moving it more than one spline makes throttle response lame

Okey, so with your inputs I dont think the gov mod is still in the picture...
So I remove the lever, move it one spline, wich direction should I move it?

And another question, I have to "bolts" on the pump, one in the front of the pump and one behind it.

the one behind it, adjusts the idle rpm, this bolt is now completly removed and the rpm is still to high.
The one in the front adjusts max lever position?
Is there any other adjustment to do on the idle rpm? (except for moving the lever one spline...)
