I need more fuel when I am under boost since I have a naturally aspirated pump right now, if anyone can help me out let me know.
Thanks

I've got a pump w/ one on it that I want to sell. The pump doesn't work. I have explained on my website....

If your interested PM me

That's an interesting setup....looks like the pump top is off of a Peugeot or something.
I used one like that on a 4B pump I made (but haven't used yet).
-
This probably sounds stupid..... but is it not a pump off of a vw?
-
Post the numbers that are cast/engraved into the pump and I'll check.
-
Great, thanks... here is a pic with the numbers and another pic from the top...

There is a VW Audi logo on it so it is an OE VW pump. The number actually comes back to originally being used on 82-83 Jetta TD, 82-85 Quantum TD, and 83-84 Rabbit TD....discontinued in 1995. The thing that seemed strange is the lever on the front in this picture:
It has a manual shut-off (for cars with automatic transmission) which is nothing I've ever seen on a VW pump before (perhaps because I don't think I've ever seen an automatic VW TD).
-
Okay, this has me obsessing now...
Here are some numbers off of the top of the aneroid...
13815
1 465 530 426
The car that this pump came off of is from Georgia .... it hadn't been licensed since 1991.
Here is a close up of the etchings from what looks to be a rebuilder...and I'm guessing the 4/01 means april 2001...

So is that lever the manual shut off? Some kind of emergency or runaway deal...?
-
Maaaaan, I'll be hacked off if the reason I could not get it to run was because of a manual shut off being in the "off" position!
-
It's spring loaded so I don't see how that could have been an issue. Since you can't just throw it in gear and pop the clutch to kill the engine in an automatic it uses a manual shut off to ensure that you can shut it down in case the stop solenoid were to stick or something.
-
Okay, so the spring holds it to the "on" position? I did just go check it and the spring works.
So you're saying the spring holds it in the "on" position? Then in a runaway vehicle, scenario,,,,electronic kill doesn't work, you pull a lever and it shut's her down? Could it have been connected to the automatic shift linkage and allow a vehicle to run but not rev when in park or neutral? I guess in that case the spring would keep it in the "off" of "idle" position....
-
The spring keeps it normally on. It has nothing to do with runaway...just being able to turn the engine off as if the stop solenoid were to fail you'd have no other way of shutting the engine off besides letting it run out of fuel.

so would you guys say that this pump is a good one to get for the boost aneroid? it will be used in my TDI project.
If you guys think that it will work well then I am interested in it
thanks

Justin, I don't see any reason why it would not be a good one unless there is a draw back to haveing the manual cut off. I would say that it will need some work of some kind. I don't know if it is possible to have the cam plate 180 degrees off but the car ran as if that was the case. I put a lift pump on the car thinking it was not drawing enough fuel and that did not help. It is also possible that it just has gunk inside from sitting up so long, or the seals in it could be bad. But as far as being a solid starting point I believe it would be.
VWMike might better know if the manual cut off has any negatives. I would think it could be nice to have and to hook up to a cable to shut it down or when under the hood working... not a huge plus...just thinking out loud.
-
I don't really see any problem with having a manual shut-off. That pump looks pretty nice....if only it worked 100% :D
-
Just curious, could it work if you aligned the gear 180 off when setting the pulley and belt?
-
Perhaps but there is no hole for the lock pin there.
-
vwmike,
there is a pin for the lock pin on the injection pump pulley for timing purposes, I have a pump that i put together 180 out by accident and I was able to correct it by using the other small lockpin hole in the gear, the gear is symetrical for balance purposes I believe.

cool...at least that one worked out :D
