Title: Do I need this?
Post by: VelocityConservation on August 18, 2006, 12:43:58 pm
I have a '90 NA Jetta and the good chassis.  I have a TD motor from a '92 Jetta (Canadian car).  The sensor (heater) that the red arrow is pointing to.  What is it? what does it do?  My NA chassis does not have the electrical connection for this.  Do I need it?  Can I bypass?

Here is a closeup of the sensor itself (after cleaning)

Thanks, In advance.

It's a heater that heats up the air coming from the PCV into the intake to prevent ice crystals going through the turbo.  That's what I've heard anyways....

ice crystals arent gonna hurt you too much,i water inject into my turbo air inlet,,but a plugged up pcv hose due to ice isnt a good thing it could happen in real cold weather, the length of the hose can cause condensation to freeze in the cold weather

Thanks everyone for the answer.  I am going to follow Andrews suggestion and wire it inline with the stop solenoid.

I will expand on my answer today, as I have a little more time. I never like to put half burnt junk back through my engine, as such I have a catch can for the breather, and no heater, the hole has been plugged (with a welded precup-- thank's to PP) Normally I run a smooth radius CAI, but as I am switching turbo's and turbo locations this winter in the build, I thought I wouldn't bother until that point.

Dvst8tr, could you post some pics and elaborate on your catch can setup?

Thanks,
