Title: How does it always happen?
Post by: ORCoaster on May 12, 2024, 02:48:55 pm
I was wrapping up the installation of a headlight ring and alternator on the VW pickup and went to close the hood.  Something went wrong and the latch is now not working.  I was only able to remove the grill last night and will head out now to drill the rivets out and see IF I can fix it.

But should I not be able to do that, parts do wear out after 40 years' time.  I will need another, and I can't find anything online at this time.  I should have picked up one I saw for sale on CL about a month ago but that is hindsight.  The best kind you know.

If you have one available or are willing to drill one out of one you have rusting away in the back 40, please let me know.  I don't want to have to go through the hood with pins. I just don't like that method.  It is not a race car, so those just don't look right to me.

I found a cable, the puller and the complete upper and lower latch assembly for about 95 shipped. So I am good to go once it arrives.  Maybe by the middle of the week.

I haven't had that one happen in a while.

Parts get old and worn.  That was the case with my latch.  I did manage to repair it enough to get it to work but I really wanted one in better shape.  Glad I found one.
