Hello everyone, I'm new here to the forum. I've been looking to get into the diesel game and figured I'd register here because this seems like a great VW diesel knowledge base. :)
Anyways in my search for the right car, I've found a 1984 MkI Jetta sedan with a 1.9 eco diesel (which has 50k miles). As far as I know, that means it's an engine from a later Jetta in a MkI. I'm planning to have a look at the car, but basically I'm wondering if it would be a good first diesel car, whether or not the swap would be something to worry about, and what kind of maintenance the engine would need.
Here's a link to the ad I found the car from.

Any help would be great, thanks.

No such thing as an eco 1.9, that is an authentic 1.9TD, never had those in the states, they are a very fun engine to have in an A1 car. They do have an issue with the crank failing, do some searching on the site here for 1.9 crank failures.
