Title: AAZ injector compatibility
Post by: ToddA1 on November 19, 2021, 05:48:55 pm
I’m running VW 1.6 injectors with AAZ lines on my AAZ.  I needed to slightly bend the lines down, to fit.

Is there a VW, Volvo, Mercedes, etc., injector that has the same height as the AAZ injector?  Doesn’t need to be dual stage.

If memory serves correctly would'nt it be easier to just run 1.6 injector lines on the AAZ?

The 1.6 lines would also need to be bent.  The AAZ block is ~1/2" taller than the 1.6 block and the difference is at the head gasket surface.  The pump is bolted to the block and the injectors are in the head.

I did that, in the beginning, and had one line snap at the pump union. In my mind, bending up, is worse than bending down.  There was more tweaking required.

Exactly, although the 1.6 lines are easier to source and actually use. The 1.6 lines rubbed the aneroid.  To use the AAZ lines, I had to find the longer delivery valves. I originally found a NOS set from a 4BT, but the bore was visually larger than the current VW ones I got from a 1.6 ecodiesel(?).
