i have basic street legal coverage. i pay 30 usd a month for ins through allstate.
-
360 bucks a month with 2 speeding tickets but it was still 240 a month before the tickets
-
costs 228$ for 6mo on the frankenbunny for comute -to- SF 100+ miles a day... 1ton diesel van is 178$ for 6.... higher $ amounts and uninsured is needed in kalifornia for accidents caused by illegals w out ins driving unregistered cars w bad titles that hit and run (on foot!) :x

228$ for 6mo, diesel van is 178$ for 6
You Americans don't know how lucky you are.
360 bucks a month
I'm paying around 190....... A MONTH!
-
259 canadian dollars a year.
Insured minimally on the jetta 1.6D.
That's 21,58 per month, do I win anything?
-
Both the '91 Golf and the '83 Rabbit...for about $220 for six months.
Progressive, just liability, uninsured motorist.... not full coverage.
-
700 dollars every 6 months with a pefect driving record(they don't know about my ticket yet), 2 drivers ed courses one 30 hr class room and one like 6 hr road or something, plus there one safety course thing i did, it's as cheap as it gets, breaking my balls. it used to be 760 before i turned 18. and that's just liability
-
$2400/year covers 2 92 TD's with unlimited mileage, a 3/4 ton four door GMC (diesel conversion), and a gooseneck horse trailer. Bothe drivers are over 39 with perfect records. Minimal coverage on the Jetta's they're only worth about 2000 apiece on a good day any way, right? I believe the jetta's are less than 800 each with unlimited mileage (back and forth to work vehicles) 2 million liability. fire and theft. No comp, no collision.
-
I pay $250.00 USD per year on a '81 Rabbit. This is for 100,000 - 300,000 - 100,000 including uninsured motorist.
-
We pay more taxes here in Quebec, but insurances are lower than anywhere in North America. :D
-
92 Golf Diesel - I pay $800 per year for 30,000km each year for basic insurance in Toronto
this has dripped in the last couple years from $1000
-
I GET RAPED :D DAMN THOSE INSURANCE COMPANIES. I could own a new rabbit for the amount i pay for insurance.
-
$73 a month it's almost minimum but not really minimum is like $66 so for my extra $6 I get alot more.
my dodge witch is classified as a class 5 (vipers n such cars are 6/7) I pay $55 a month and same thing as VW
Dang foreign cars cost soo much to insure, oh yeah through my parents nationwide cause I ain't getting raped by the insurance company
-
I'm 23 and only have one claim, a not-at-fault accident totalling my 93 Subaru Impreza wagon. I pay approx $650/year on a 97 Jetta with one-way coverage, $250 deductible, $1 million liability. Mind you, I also pay $200+ annually for vehicle registration and $90+ for my driver's license.
-
When I insured my rabbit myself I was 19, took drivers ed and it was a 84. It cost 240 a month, so 2880 a year. Now I'm on my parents policy and I think I pay $80 a month
That is with basic, no fire, theft etc
-
$100/month for $3,000,000 liability, $1,000 collision deducatable, $300 comprehensive deductable, underinsured protection and some loss of use protection. Unlimited mileage, to and from work. etc That is at our provincial monopolistic insurance companies maximum claim free discount of 40%.
Also have a '95 chev van with roughly same coverage except pleasure use only. $80/month.
And the wife's '01 Venture, $160 month (she only has half the discount I do).
No discounts here for multiple vehicles!
:!: Someone mentioned insuring in parent's name for cheaper rates. DONT DO IT. You may get away with it for years, but if you ever need that insurance, like after you cause an accident with big liability pending, that is when they will pull out the stops to investigate and it wont be hard for them to prove that the car was really primarily operated by you and the insurance was purchased under false pretense. So they cancel your coverage and you end up with your pay being docked the rest of your life to cover medical bills or they sieze all your parents assets or both.
-
$41 per month for the GTI. I think it's higher because of being a two door, as the much bigger 4wd pickup is $41 per month too, and the old subaru is only $31 per month. All of them have liability only, but it's a higher than normal policy because owning a house and business put me at more risk than if I didn't own anything I guess...
And that is with a bunch of discounts for good driver, multiple cars insured, having my house with the same company, etc....
-
wow... hey smokeydub... change insurance companies man! wtf is that 360 a month for a what vehicle? omfg these clowns can do ANYTHING in good old CANADA... They are basically allowed to do anything they want, and we need insurance to stay legal... if you ask me its a huge scam. 1st of all, women pay cheaper insurance. I know way more women that have been in accidents than males. FFS I was looking out my window at work on that rainy weekend a week ago and saw some dumb b*tch smoke some poor pedestrian. She basically waited till the last second to stop for a red light, which is exactly what you are supposed to do. AT THE MOTHERF*CKING DRAG STRIP!!! Now that dude is probably going to be in so much pain...
But noooooooooo male drivers are more prone to accidents. Do the math dick weeds there are more male drivers on the road...
I pay $176/mo for my car and thats with an accident that wasn't my fault. Through the Durham Regional Police insurance discount mine will be $135. I'm switching very soon actually... :D
Another thing... My mom was hit by some stupid ass woman who wasn't looking where she was driving (yes yes... this happens quite often) and making a right hand turn. (no no... you ARE supposed to keep an eye on oncoming traffic! Nevermind where your car is moving!!! yea.. you dumb asssssss ) My mom thought she had made eye contact with her, and proceeded to cross the street. The lady then gunned it, and my moms wrist got caught in the mirror (thank god it was a honda... the mirror broke off) but still... my moms whole arm is totally messed up now!
She's going through mad pain and the insurance company is going to take as long as they can to discredit her. WTF!!! a company that makes $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$(better stop... no way i can depict how much money these thieves make on this post...) can easily pay out what is deserved, in a timely manner. I mean come on! If i miss my insurance payment, they will screw me, but they can take their sweet time.
At least they are paying a percentage of her lost wages for work... that'll do for now. She needs the big money for really good therapy to try and get her arm back to normal (think south park episode with stem cells+chris reeves .... lol)

Insurance rates in Ontario are defintly a scam :(
I'm under my parents insurance but I'm listed as the primary driver so I think I'd be all good in an accident

You're lucky... when I wanted to insure my first car (the Subaru Impreza), I tried to do it under my parents policy w/TD as they took over Liberty Mutual. They flat out refused and gave me a BS reply saying that I don't qualify as family, even though I was trying to do it as primary driver and owner. Called Belair and they gave me a rate 30% less ($450 vs $650)... so I called TD and told them to f'off.
-
Eep! Reading some of the rates makes me cringe! I thought I was geting ripped off at £200 (about $400US) per year fully comprehensive, and I've got points and a total write off to my name.
Robbing swines the lot of them. It took a 3 month battle with an insurance co. to get a payout for my Corrado...
Cheers,
Tom

i hate insurance, you pay them to cover your *** ups, and then when you actually ***up they raise your rates and you end up paying for them your self anyway, pretty lame.

yeah big time... I guess the only time insurance is a benefit, is when someone gets injured.
300$ per month at maybe.... 100'000 insured drivers = 30 million per month. It clearly does not equal out... and they are clearly in it for the money!

If not for the money then why else would they do it?
There are alot of deductions that come off that 30 million.
It's still a scam though

insurance rates for everyone could be cut dramatically and still be very very profitable for the companies. especially since they never have to handle anything physical, it's all paper work. the people that really get an ass pounding are the kids like me, honestly i wish i would have waited to drive and just had a job close to home and saved all my money until i turned 18. oh well, i have a good record with insurance so far. they don't know about my ticket yet and all that, i think it's bull *** that when they find out about my ticket that my rates will go up, as i have never cost them any money what so ever, and the ticket didn't cost them anymore either. argh. money i hate it with a passion, it does so many evil things. but it's just like floyds song if it take it as they wrote it.... keep ur hands off my stack beotch
-
i pay $260 CDN with liability only..... that means can't crash or i'm F@#K and no coverage on anything else. So, i'm F@#K if anything happens. I'm with Kingsway
-
^ You didnt mention location.
Bring your squeeky clean driving record to BC and you will be paying 5 times as much for the same level of insurance. I wonder if you really are 5 times as likely to have an accident here as Flagstaff AZ? Probably only the insurance companies know that answer.
-
$76 per month for $1,000,000 liability only on my 85 Jetta Coupe with a perfect driving record. Can't figure out why so much since my brother in law is paying about the same for full coverage on his 2002 Caravan. I'm just waiting for them to ask about the mileage and refuse me coverage (just rolled over 710,000 kms).
-
Full coverage $500 deductible, through the Co-operators it is $288/month for my wife and I... I am 21 and she is 20 no tickets, but we'll have a nice rate hike next year because of the accident she had this spring

Its not a truly competitive market. ICBC was established as a government run monoply for auto insurance in the 1970s, supposedly to make insurance cheaper and more accessible. In the 90s at some point the courts overturned part of the monopoly and allowed privately run insurance to sell 'optional' insurance, but you still have to buy the minimum insurance from ICBC. The result of this: when I first licensed a car in the 80s you would easily double your insurance if you wanted optional coverage like collision, fire and theft etc. Now, it only adds like 10-20 percent to get the same optional coverage. So what has happened is that ICBC has moved all it's profits into the protected part of its market and the competitive part of the racket is priced so that there is limited competition. This is not affected by my getting older either, they can only discriminate based on driving record.
BC is not known as a particularly rich jurisdiction for lawsuits (come here from the US and you will have to sign a form waiving your rights to sue in the US before most Doctors will see you). The drivers and roads here don't 'appear' to be worse than any where else I have driven. Only the insurance companies would really be able to analyse that.
I do know that when I lived in Nova Scotia, we had 2 cars insured for under $500. Came back to BC and the same cars, drivers and coverage was over $1300 per car! The 2 cities involved (Halifax and Victoria) are similar size, similar demographics.
-
my insurance was just under a grand a year in Ontario and I moved down to BC 6 months ago and it went to $1400/yr EXACT SAME COVERAGE, Same car - I drove it down. actually I tacked on renters insurance in Ontario it added something like 30/mth here in Surrey BC it's 240/mth  absolutly insane ! the ICBC agent said that BC stands for Bring Cash. apparently the pastime here is auto theft, they do have the "bait car' program here, theres a link to see videos of theives in action baitcar.com , it's pathetic how easily they get away and lighty charged
-
I just dropped the insurance on the Golf and paid $130 for the Rabbit for 6 months.
Not full coverage.
