Title: Gearbox problems "Help"
Post by: mansvw on July 19, 2006, 05:08:58 pm
hi all,

ive got a 1.9td aaz with a mechanical linkage gearbox 020.

the problem im having is putting the car into 5th gear  , it just doesn't want to go, i physicaly can't move the gear shifter in to 5th gear, feels like im going to break the shifter. all other gears work fine R1234 are okay, the car drive fine in those gear but 5th gear can't be found.

had a look under the bonnet to see if there was a bent linkage or something. all fine under the bonnet.

any one have any idea? has this happened 2 any1 b4?

The shift linkage is loose, if your selector stick is the same as the mk2 020 trannys, then it will have on of two styles of adjustments,

86-90 was adjustable under the car I believe

90-92 can be adjusted from inside the car

you need to post some pics of your assembly for eaiser explanation

you also may want to check the plastic ball joints between the stick and the trans, i was having the same issue, dropped in a rebuild kit and like magic everything worked great.
