Post by: SMOKEYDUB on July 16, 2006, 01:49:54 pm
i have a clock in my td and i have a cluster that has a tach in it and i noticed that there is a wire connected to the w terminal on the alternator. will the tach work if i plug it all in?

I know on the gas models there is a early and late mk2 cluster. I'm not sure about diesels, I'd have to check tomorrow. What years are they from?

Yes it will. As long as the wire is red with a black stripe. My(now) TD Coupe had a clock also. I had the cluster from my donor car that had the diesel tach. I swapped the cluster and plugged it in and it worked.

Could be the tach itself. My tach works great, goes to redline and beyond.
Don't really know for sure what could be wrong. Sorry.

had problems with my t3 (vanagon)rev counter that was down to a bad connection in the engine the diesel clock seem to be more suseptable than the gas one,to test it i ran a wire from output w to the clock and it ran fine but by doing a resistance check on the origanal i traced it to a dry connection in the engine bay.
