I have an 82 rabbit pickup and it keeps getting slower every time I drive it. I can barely keep it at 60mph now. I know it's capable of it, yesterday it had more power than it had ever had the whole time I've owned it. I could accelerate up a slight incline in 5th. Now I can't even do it in 4th.
It seems like theres more power at partial throttle than full throttle. It feels like the more I push down on the pedal, the slower it goes.
any ideas?
thanks guys.

Does the fuel filter need changed? Does it make more smoke?
-
no smoke, and it has been changed recently
I'm going to try cleaning the lines and injectors this weekend, see if that clears things up.
I did add some diesel power? stuff, it may have knocked some sludge out. I'm almost 100% certain the lines and injectors have never been cleaned in its 178k miles. I bet the injection pump could use some timing as well.

is it getting harder to start as well?
-
it's hard to start when it's warm, when it's cold, no problems, starts right up.

well, I cleaned out the solid lines to the injectors, the injectors themselves, and replaced the return lines (rubber w/ mesh)
definitely has more power, but I still keep running into a brickwall when going up hills. I know I'm not supposed to expect much from the little 1.6NA, but it's not a gradual loss of power, it's a sudden loss of power.
I think I'm going to get the GreaseWorks.org viton hose kit, and drop the tank, totally scrub the inside of the tank, fix the fuel sender, clean the mesh, and brakleen/blow out all the solid lines and see what happens. Also install my tach so I can safely (to me) take off the rev limiter.
