Title: I have a new project in mind
Post by: Darkness_is_spreading on June 27, 2006, 04:22:14 pm
After seeing the amazing videos of the 2.0 16V Turbo rabbit in europe, I was recently inspired by a cheap gas rabbit cabriolet....

I am wondering how much potential these cabriolet will have with a 1.6 TD motor, with all the goodies of intrecooling, pump mods, open exhaust, etc

I have seen the power of giles pumps in a 2500 lbs Jetta,  and believe that the rabbit cabriolet will be amazing in both performance and economy....

The car in question is a gas 1980 cabriolet, the guy wants $500 with a dead clutch and some body work, but I think I can get him down to $200.

cabriolet are on the heavy end of the mk1 spectrum,  get a german built mk1 if you wanna be the lightest you can,  so any jetta, or any rabbit made from 1975-1979(only diesel rabbits were german built in 1979)  anyways, just an idea.

i agree with the poster above... if you're getting into mkIs for the weight, the cabby is the heaviest of the bunch. early rabbit or scirocco would be my pick... '79 or before if possible.

you can also get a US rabbit pretty light and they are a lot easier to come by. mine is under 1900Ibs, 1982 with a lot of non-essentials removed. cheers  :)
