Title: 14mm head/plunger
Post by: Dr. Diesel on June 04, 2006, 09:35:41 pm: I recently heard about there being 14mm heads available. I searched the bosch catalog top to bottom and the biggest I could find is 12mm. Curious, I sent this site's 14mm head supplier an email regarding this. No reply.
I dug up a 12mm plunger and did some measuring.
Check out the pic.
The actual plunger part of the plunger is of course, 12mm. The base of the plunger is 14mm. Could this be confusing people into thinking a 12mm plunger is 14mm?

I've heard about 14mm from multiple sources and one of them is a pump shop who built a VW IDI w/ 14mm for some kind of machinery. Definitely low RPM for that application.

Others can chime in here and verify the 12 vs. 14mm.

Post by: RedRotors on June 05, 2006, 03:06:30 pm: 14mm are not a Myth.. One is coming down here in a few weeks. Caddy and me worked together to build the head.. 14mm is custom made.. Bosch stop at 12mm.

Nobody has this thing in NA, and Dave will be the first one to test it.. :) I would expect a lot of fuel and the need of fat injector.. Small holes will create too much back pressure.. I thing that 0.240 + will be needed as well as a fuel cooler.

I'd hate to see a pic comparison of that 14mm and the stock 9mm, hey redrotors :D

i would maybe try it if this hy 35 deal goes real good+needs more fuel,,oh ill have some pics of the fabbed exhaust flanges soon......

Post by: 935racer on July 06, 2006, 05:55:55 pm: Whoa, just showed up at my shop and its like whoa. No one else in the shop at the moment knows much about injection pumps so I grabbed a core pump and pulled the head out (stock 9mm) to show them, now all of us are like whoa. :shock:

I am gonna see if I can get some pics up here so you can see the vast difference between 9mm and 14mm, think I will have to head over to NW fuel injection and piers tomorrow and see what they have to say hahaha.

I believe you run this pump on an IDI?

GM 6.2 or 6.5TD have bigger nozzles, as you probably already know.

Yes it will.. This head will need some fat holes.. to avoid high back pressure with small ones.. a fuel cooler will be needed too, at this size, it will create lot of heat. Added lubricant additive might be a good idea too. fuel

Actually, Dave is the only one known to have one in NA. I also have one. The biggest plunger made is 12mm.. 14mm is a fully custom beast.

i have a set of 6.5t nozzles wanna buy them??
brand new i paid 75 bucks
they are longer,they wont fit in a vw injector body

Yeah the 6.5 nozzles don;t fit vw injector bodies, I've looked into that as well, I heard the 6.2 ones fit but I don't know. I am gonna be using the race 520's on my tdi until someone comes up with something better.

Muhahaha. No hurry tho. Im in the process of changing jobs so when that is settled ill buy a clutch too. Then pay for it all.
