Isn't diesel fuel suppose to be cheaper than gasoline?
Right now gas is cheaper and it has been for the last month or two.
When are diesel prices going to normalize?

Here diesel is $3.27, same as the cheapest gas.

Diesel has been more expensive than gas here for wayy longer than the last month or 2. Try more like the last year or so.
It seems when the gas prices go up say 20% for example, then diesel prices go up 30% or more respectively. I think it's because the more the demand for oil goes up, then more they delegate larger percentages of that oil for gasoline production. Thus the quantity of oil for diesel production goes down, "supply and demand" takes place, and then price goes up.
That's my guess to what's happening.

€1.09/liter over here, while according to "745 turbogreasel", you're getting €0.86/liter (already converted).
Your diesel price is less than 80% of what we pay here. So, don't complain that much.. :roll:

Yes but "745 turbogreasel" is from the US. Canada is near on par with Europe which is sad because we house a large majority of the oil fields in North America.

vancouver BC rates are about Can$ 1.15 per litre or roughly €0.80/liter €1.09 is roughly Can$1.56 Are you paying that much in Ontario? I thought there was a big 'gas war' going on back east this week with prices down to Can$0.80 (€0.55) ? Almost worth the drive to fill up :wink:
In most of the world diesel has always been more expensive. Cheap diesel has been a NA phenomenon. Locally, 2 years ago diesel was about 20% less than gas, now it is usually pretty close. The pump price on gas tends to cycle up and down more, diesel sems to swing slower in both directions. We commonly see the pump price of gas swing +/- 10 cents in a day....I dont see how that relates to supply and demand, more like what the market will bear.

Today the price of gas at the place I fuel up in the west GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is 88.9. Diesel is 98.9.

Yes in the last week or so the price at the pump has gone down slightly but for the last couple months it's been hovering around $1.00/litre or slightly lower (maybe $0.98). That's been the norm for a while, it's only been down to around $0.89 recently. Diesel has always been within $0.10 higher of that.

No. Actually, in Europe, diesel has (and still is) allways been cheaper than gasoline. For example, here, the 95octanes gas is currently €1,348/liter and 98octanes is €1,413/liter.
How about that? :D
Liquid petroleum gas is the cheapest solution.

Well, that shows you can't trust the spin the oil companies were passing a couple years back when diesel jumped up the price of gas!

That right there helps my arguement about the supply and demand situation. In Europe Diesel is and always has been cheaper. If you could make up a percentage, I'd say over 50% of cars in Europe run on diesel (correct me, I know the percentage is out there) so they are making equals amounts of both. Here in North America the percentages vary greatly. I bet you under 10% of vehicles are diesel. Supply and demand takes place and thus that affects prices because they are creating more gasoline out of the crude. This leaves less for diesel production, they can't refine as in large of quantities, so the prices go northward.

just got back from germany,i know we spent like 250$ at least in fuel,it was around 109 a litre(euros)
we were staying about an hour south of munich,but we took a trip to berlin..
every time we would fill up it was 80 bux,and we filled it 4 times...
2 times there,and 2 times back,it was approx 600km each way i think,,ouch
but then again,average cruising speed was 140-150kmh,and my dads friend had a mitsubishi suv called a "pajero" with a 2800cc 4 cyl td engine
i know we have a similar suv here in the states called another name,i cant remember what it is called though,,i gotta say this thing was about 10 years old

it depfend where you live because the tax constructions are not the same everywhere... in germany the gas and diesel are about equal.

Everyone's missing one key point. Taxes. On average, Europeans are paying nearly 2/3's of the listed pump price in taxes, in Canada it's about 1/2. The US the gas tax amounts to less than 1/4 of the pump price. Here in the US, in most cases, diesel has a slightly higher tax at the pump. Where in most Euro juristictions, diesel has a lower tax rate. I know when I was stationed in Italy 20 years .... :shock: :shock:.....ago, diesel was 1/3 cheaper at the pump mainly due to the tax rate (they made up for it in the yearly wheel-tax at registration time, STILL cheaper kicking Porsche booty with my '84 Golf GTD than with my '83 BMW 323is :lol: :twisted: )

I hear your pain, but look at he Norwegians, FIFTH largest oil producer, yet they pay over $8 per gallon (@euro 1.61/liter)!!
