Title: air/fuel gauge?

I was wondering if it was possible to install a air/fuel ratio gauge on a 2000TDI, i know they run to a oxgen sensor in a gasoline car but im not sure about the TDI

No o2 sensor until the Pumpe Duse (MKV) TDI's. You shouldn't need an A/F sensor for your TDI. I don't even know if there's one sensitive enough to read it with how lean diesels run compared to gassers.

The gauge you want measures exhaust gas temperatures, also known as EGT's.

Exhaust gas temperature (best measured in the exhaust manifold between the cylinders and the turbocharger) is a indicator of how hard the motor is working.  Stock exhaust temperatures are not problem, but as guys turn up the fueling and other mods, exhaust gas temperature goes up with the power.   Too high on the temperature and the potential is that the top of the pistons, the exhaust valves or the turbocharger will fail from excess temperature.  As far as a 'safe' vs. 'danger' exhaust gas temperature number, there have been several threads, both here and the IDI forum in this board.

Diesel air/fuel "sensors" are purely visual...........no smoke=not enough....just a touch of smoke=now we're cookin'!..... too much smoke= :shock: oops we're chokin' the heard!!
