Title: Rear drums maybe shot or maybe it's my shoes
Post by: Darkness_is_spreading on May 15, 2006, 09:43:11 pm
I recently installed a new driverside e-break cable, it went smoothly andI put in a new cotter pin and fastened her all up,  I go to test the breaks and notice a rubbing noise comming from the back drums.

The noise  goes away after a stop breaking, and after they are heated up.

Are my drums out of round or do I need to adjust the breaks.

So the noise comes and goes?   I'd recommend taking it apart again and looking for whats rubbing.   shoe hold down spring/retainer comes to mind.

If the noise was a one time thing after re-assembly, it may have just been some crud in the drum.  Like a bit of rust from the drum ridge.

Drums out of round would result in pulsating pedal and a jerky rolling motion at slow speed when you pull on the e-brake.

Most common signs of rear brakes needing adjustment would be low brake pedal or high  parking brake travel.  A2 auto-adjusters seem to be pretty good
