Title: trying to change the timing belt. TRYING
Post by: 91turboeco on May 04, 2006, 03:53:36 pm
doing the rings and bearings in my 91 TD. waiting for part so started the timing belt. everything off except the big bolt in the center of the crank pully.

how do you get it off?

Best way to get it off is with an impact gun. One with decent torque.

To get the new one (they're one use stretch bolts) back on to spec later, you'll need Popeye & a couple cans of spinach.

No need to remove the big bolt for a timing belt change, just take out the 4 allen head bolts and the V belt pulleys should come off.

After removing the 4 small bolts you will need to hit the pully with a big rubber mallet or a hammer and a peice of wood.Just keep working your way around the pully and it will loosen up.some come easy and others need alot of beating. Some penetrating oil will help too. You wont need to remove the big crank bolt!
