I have a crappy manual and am doing some research before I go out and change the max fuel screw on the pump. Does someone have a pic of the collar that I'm supposed to break off and which screw is the max fuel screw vs. which screw is the idle setting screw?
Is the idle setting screw just on the throttle linkage?
Thanks

the idle screw is the one the "throttle" lever rests against when ur not pressing the pedal

Thanks I did get to go out at lunch and I found everything. I guess we'll take a crack at it tonight and see what happens.

Oh man, now I'm confused and worried that I'm going to turn the wrong thing but I guess this is part of the learning curve.
I was fine until I read this post on the 1.9TD. I know that it's a different engine but the pump looks exactly the same. Check out this thread, it says something different.

Yeesh, can anyone clarify if this guy is correct? I plan on doing this tonight.

OK so I'm following this guy (On the thread) even though he has the 1.9TD adn I have the 1.6TD. The pumps are the same?
-
pretty much. i think there are small differences but for the most part it's the same, but alot of 1.6 people have used that thread

Next time your in the area again, drop by the shop, and I'll show you what you need to do. :D
Any luck with the inj lines yet ?

OK so i did the BOV and wastegate. Thier is a difference in the top end but to be honest I don't generally wind it high enough to feel that difference on a regular basis but it is there.
Now here's my issue. I did the adjustment on the max fuel screw. My idle went up so I know I was turning it the right way, then I tried to drop the idle with the screw that the guy told me to in this thread again
http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=579
and it didn't go down. So instead I tried the one that drops the resting position of the throttle lever (it rests against it) and that worked. So I dropped it back down, then I upped the max fuel a bit more and dropped the idle again. Then I tried it once more in a very small amount and now the idle won't go down all the way.
So, my question, did I go to high with the max fuel screw? Or am I supposed to drop screw #7 in the diagram on that thread? To be honest their is a difference but I don't think it would beat a GTI gasser as everyone says.

Oh and I found a funny little issue. My BOV wasn't even sitting in it's spot in the intake manifold. The clamping ring had rusted through and it was sitting on an angle. So needless to say I wasn't even getting full factory boost. Hopefully my mileage goes up now because I fixed with with a large gear clamp over the original clamp. Is this a dealer part only?
I haven't got the pressure gauge in yet. That's this weekend.
-
bump, I'm afraid I might have done something wrong.
-
Yeah that clamp is dealer only. You turned your fuel upa bit much, turn it back down until it idles normally.
