Tranmission: 020 AWY 04120
Weather: temps in the 80s
No shifting problems. No popping out of gear or grinding. All normal.
Changed fluid using Redline MT-90, 75W90 GL-4 three years ago. Fluid is full.
Whirring, clickety-clickety noise from transmission case; clutch release lever end (drivers side) of the case. Loud enough to NOT need a stethoscope to hear it.
When I listened with a mechanic’s stethoscope, the noise is greatest at the clutch lever end of the tranny and gets quiet closer to the block. No noise from engine or head or pump.
When hot, the noise will be there on start up.
If the clutch pedal is pushed in, the noise stops; even after the clutch pedal is released.
Also, it also stops if the throttle is slightly "blipped”.
Next day:
Cold start, no noise. Push clutch in no noise. Blip throttle no noise.
Only with the stethoscope I can hear a minor clickey/whirring on the front of the tranny case near the where the clutch cable is attached to the clutch release lever, just below the 27 mm selector shaft cover. The rest of the tranny is pretty quiet. No shifting problems.
Could it be a bad release bearing????
