Title: Diesel-Swapping a 1982 Audi 4000
Post by: vwbusman66 on February 09, 2017, 03:23:23 pm
I am looking at buying a $750 very solid 1982 Audi 4000. It is running well, but is gas powered. I want something that I can convert to run on WVO (please don't yell at me for "ruining" a good engine). Assuming I source an A1 1.6 n/a engine that is 100 complete, can I just pull out the 1.7 CIS and install the 1.6? I'm aware that I will need to wire a glow plug relay and fuel solenoid shut off, but is there anything else that is different between an A1 and B1 diesel engine?

you'll need the oil pick up tube and oil pan for an audi/quantum with a 4 cylinder, and also the oil filter mount thing, you should be able to just use the stuff from the 1.7 for that, same with the exhaust.

I also beleive the alternator mounts differently on these vehicles than the rabbit or golf...
