Title: Combined Weight of Engine and Transmission
Post by: thomas m on October 05, 2016, 04:21:30 pm
What is the combined weight of a 1.6 NA engine (ME code) and transmission as it would be lifted out of the vehicle?

Mine a 1991 MK2 Jetta.

Do you need an exact weight? It's somewhere around 300lbs. I was able to lift a 1.6td across my parking lot and up a flight of stairs by myself. I'm a fairly big guy but I don't workout lol. I'd guess around 225lbs and the tranny is easy 50-75lbs.

Dry weight of a 1.6 assembled is 180, trans is pretty light under 75lbs IIRC it is 60lbs. so under 300 for sure. Probably around 270

300 pounds !! Close enough for my purpose.

I'm building an engine support out of wood.
A 3/8 inch threaded rod is good for about 600 pounds, so a couple of those is in the safe range.

Thanks
