Title: Intake Air Temperature sensor
Post by: gto on July 05, 2016, 06:25:26 am
Hello,
I own a european Golf 3 (1992) GTD with AAZ engine.
The previous owner  made some mods about engine and suspensions (he replaced turbo with a vnt-15, added an intercooler from astra CDTI and lowered the machine)
I then buyed an AAZ engine with less mileage and swapped it (because the original one had some trouble) making a mix of parts (actually it did all my mechanic) because "new" IP was with electronic so I keeped the "old" pump.
I managed to restore the originality of the engine so the turbo is now KKK03 but I wanted to keep the intercooler so I buyed from the scrapyard piping from a golf 3 with engine 1z and intercooler from another golf 3 TDI.
It seems to me that all is working good.
I noticed on one of the intercooler pipe the presence of an Intake Air Temperature sensor, obviously it is attached to nothing because AAZ has not got an ECU, but I was wondering if it's possible to use this sensor maybe attaching it to some gauge?
Did someone already tried to do this?

i've been curious about this same thing for a later build, itd be a great tool for tuning intake location, intercooler placement, and knowing when a turbo compressor has become inefficient.  they definitely make intake air temperature gauges, but its hard to say if it will work with the tdi sensor.

You should be able to use an Auber Instruments or similar type electronic gauge with that sensor. It'll take a bit of work to decipher the curve it needs though.
