Title: Finding tdc on a LR pump
Post by: Bravo2043 on March 02, 2016, 09:26:08 pm
I'm really hoping this isn't a stupid question, I'm a new to this stuff. I'm planning on putting a LR 300tdi pump on a 1Z motor.

I don't have the pump yet, but it seems like when I get it the orientation could be anywhere.

When it gets installed and the timing belt goes on, it should be really close to tdc #1. At that point you could set timing by using a dial indicator.

Seems like if you do it right the stock vw pump lock tool could be used when you need to change the timing belt.

Seems like all that hinges on finding tdc#1 on the IP.

The keyway in the IP mainshaft is aligned with the port on the other end of the pump that is going to fire next. Makes it pretty simple.
