Post by: Smithlawncare677 on November 17, 2015, 07:08:18 am
I'm looking for a strait forward answer. I've search with no luck.
I'm pretty sure the aaz is the motor I'm after bit is there anyothers and when they are posted for sell what questions should I ask to make sure I'm getting the right one or should I just ask for a injection pump picture?   Thanks jared

3 bolts on the valve cover 1.9 on the block and the injection pump are usually how I tell. Can also tell by the lack of a crank position sensor and wire coming off of one of the injectors.

The older 1.6td engines are also mechanical and would work for you but less torque as you probably know.

The AAZ was the last stock non-electronic VW turbo-diesel imported to North America.  The first two generations of TDIs ran VE pumps that were electronically controlled.  Many individuals have fitted appropriate fully mechanical TDI pumps to them.  With a decent pump choice the result is more torque than an AAZ and significantly better fuel economy.  With a mechanical pump, the install is virtually the same as with an AAZ.
