Title: Steering Rack Interchange Info
Post by: Toby on June 16, 2015, 05:20:19 pm
Will a Mk3 Jetta rack and pinion fit into a Mk2 Golf? Are any of the racks of different ratios? GTI vs Jetta sedan for instance. I am starting to do some things to my Low Buck GTD project and PS is at the top of my list. So.... does anybody know what fits what?
TIA
Jason

The only rack i swapped out was on a B3 passat, used one from a Vento, all i had to change was the knuckle  arms on the rack
because they were a different length.   As for ratio´s i´m not so sure, maybe some one with more knowledge can answer that for you

I think the different rations are between the ZF (VR6) and TRW (everything else) racks. I think if you swap the rack, tie rods and steering knuckle that connects to the steering wheel shaft you are good to swap the ZF and TRW around on a MK3. I have no idea if MK2 and MK3 are interchangeable.

I don't know if the ratios or overall dimensions are different, but I don't suspect they are. I believe the spline count on the coupler u-joints that connect the steering rack to the steering column are different however.
