Title: 1.6 NA archaeology. Help me dig
Post by: assforkr on May 22, 2015, 12:26:38 pm
Well, property owner gave me a deadline for finishing up the project in her garage and getting on my way so I pulled the engine and started welding. Engine seems to be a mish-mash of parts so I'm hoping you guys can help me ID the components in prep for replacements.

Looks like gasser intake. I'm 90% certain the turbo is a saab 900 TD-04 with the wastegate bell and bracket removed and the flapper arm tacked in the shut position. Needless to say I'll be looking for a replacement turbo since a good external waste gate costs as much as a new turbo and this one has some oil issues.

Pulled the custom exhaust manifold and intake. Depending on turbo choice I'll likely to for an ahu exhaust manifold that faces up, bolt on a flange and weld up a spool piece to hook up the turbo on the driver side of the engine.

Stupid question but this isn't a 1.6TD block is it?

Suggestions for turbo/rebuild parts welcome. Going to VW scrapper tomorrow to go grab bumpers and anything else I can find.
