Title: Running an AAZ as a 1Y
Post by: FatmanGolf on April 18, 2015, 09:53:10 am
Hi guys... Have a few questions.

Basically I have an AAZ here with a blown turbo that I'm selling. I have a friend interested in it but they want to know if they could run it as a 1Y instead of an AAZ. They are putting it into a t25 camper and don't want the hassle of making up engine mount brackets, exhaust downpipes, etc for it. Just something with a bit more power to help pull the camper up hills that's more or less a direct bolt in replacement.

So my question... Could you run a standard AAZ as a 1Y? Would you need to swap the AAZ pump for a 1Y pump? Compression ratios be ok? And would it still make 1Y power?

Cheers
Stefan :)

Yup, it would be fine. Might need the fuel screw tweaked a bit but other than that it'll behave exactly like a 1Y.

Sure. I ran my T3 as a 1Y, but had a big intake and exhaust with a Giles pump. I'm 99 sure I had more torque than a JX and would pull strong past 5000 rpm

Ah! Good to know guys. Thanks for the reply :).

The AAZ pump has a shimmed governor and a few tweaks to the fuel screw so should help it along a bit. :D.
