Title: Starting up aaz after sitting for a while
Post by: Ian0391 on April 13, 2015, 12:39:04 pm
Hey guys,  I just finished swapping and aaz into diesel mk2. The motor last ran about a year ago, it has a fresh timing belt on it and the motor spins free.  I'm about to start it up for the first time,  is Th ere anything special I should do to prep it first?

Also it seems like it's sitting in the car a little crooked,  like the valve cover is lower on the right vs left.  Is that fine?

I've heard of putting a few drops of oil down the valves to help lubricate the cylinders but other then that and an oil change I can't think of much.

change oil/filter; air filter, check all intake &connections, clean; fuel filter, prime from inlet. check that water/coolant is good. as long as you have fuel @fuel pump you should be ok; good batt; i guess your ready to crank over; if she starts up let idle,(if you have turbo), its not a bad idea to let idle for 1-2mins, the rev up some and get her warm, after a few mins take for a drive; if everythings in order otherwise. i d throw in lubromoloy + seafoam to a full tank. as far as the motor sitting crooked it may be a problem, mounts and drivetrain may bind, ?needs new motor mounts?.

The engine doesn't sit straight side to side in these cars.  :)

I'm glad to hear they re supposed to be a bit crooked.  As far as all the filters fuel and accessories,  I just swapped out a running but worn out 1.6 for the aaz so it's all fresh and working,  and all the fluids have been changed so I guess I'm good to go,  thanks for the help
