Title: Performance camshafts
Post by: Powered by Spearco on April 07, 2015, 08:21:48 pm
When was the last time anyone bought one of the performance cams from Giles?
Can anyone give any feed back from their builds using one?

Guess I should just call Giles and see if he's got them still.

I'd assume he'd have some dyno graphs comparing his to stock. Would be worth making a call/email and see what's up? Post any info you find including price. Would definitely be interested in hearing about them!

I bought one from Giles, but it's been almost 2 years ago.  Best bet is to call him about availability.

I don't have before & after numbers, but feel good about the fact that I'm using one of his cams as part of the combination to make 167 HP from my turbo 1.5L.

Steve.

It's really hard to see before and after numbers on a diesel with JUST a cam change.  The cam lets in more air, but as we all know power comes from burning fuel, not burning air.  Additional air lowers EGTs and allows more fuel to be burned but just changing the cam without touching anything else won't show much in the way of gains.

I know optimal performance is obviously going to come from fuel delivery but more important then maximum torque and hp you would get from a dyno is the power curve. The dyno map is going to show where the power band is going to kick in and give you a better idea of how you want your engine to run. Example more torque down low or a higher reving engine with maximum gains higher up the power band. It would also give you a better idea of what turbo to choose.
