Title: Inaccurate fuel guage
Post by: nissannx on March 31, 2015, 03:54:41 am
1992 jetta diesel n/a

When my guage reads 1/4 tank I have no diesel left in my tank. How do I fix this?

Thanks

Two ways, one repaint the gauge so that 1/4 is really E.  The other is to rebend the arm on the float in the tank so that the resistance being produced by the sender is more in line with the gauge needs on the dash.  If you are looking at 1/4 tank on the gauge and are empty you need to bend the arm down some so that it sends the proper signal to the gauge.

Is there access in the trunk or do I drop the tank?

If it is like the mk1 you can bend the top where the float attaches to the sender...not bend the wire, but the tab it hits when full or empty.

I thought the Jetta had access from the trunk.  Remove liner and look for round ring and wires.  Tap the ring loose and remove gauge out the top.  Someone with a Jetta tell him if I am wrong.

Mk2's do have access to the tank, I forget if it's in the trunk or under the back seat.
