Title: 1.6TD high output. Crank Key way fail / crank wear questions.
Post by: jedibones on February 26, 2015, 02:09:26 pm
Hi, my crank pulley key failed and chewed on the crank o.d. surface.  I am posting pictures to see if anyone has had this happen before and to receive thoughts on if this crank can be used.  It was suggested that loctite 660 may be used in the keyway and blue loctite on the bolt.

I've definitely seen worse. If a new sprocket fits tightly without wobbling then you're probably OK, but if it has play then you'll need to clean things up.

I would take it to a machinist and have measurements done...to me from the keyboard and the pics I see it looks like you have some scrap iron there.

It can still be pinned and used.

If I would do that I would do the 4 pin the g60 guys did and have it welded and machined back down so it had an actual OD. I would also do the D sprocket when welded.

It's not just a 1.9 problem.
I've seen this happen to a couple 1.6TDs.
