Title: Gasser intake on my 1.6D? Worth it?
Post by: hibernatingbear on February 12, 2015, 06:36:13 pm: I just bought an 81 gasser parts car and I remembered reading somewhere about using a gasser intake on my diesel for better top end power and hopefully colder air w/ a cone.

This is the intake I'd like to use.

Interesting. I thought I remember reading somewhere that it was still a worth while mod. I'm trying to find that thread.

Post by: vanbcguy on February 13, 2015, 07:07:27 am: The NA intake is actually pretty good, it has nice long runners and everything. There isn't any gain to using the gasser intake. The turbo intake on the other hand is pretty poor.

If this was put on NA diesel, would you be able to attach the brake booster to the manifold? Would I be able to get rid of the vacuum pump? Or I am completely off base and diesels dont create vacuum at the manifold?

Post by: vanbcguy on February 13, 2015, 11:14:27 pm: Why does a gasser create vacuum? Because the throttle plate won't let air enter the engine, but the piston goes down in the bore creating an empty space that can't be filled, aka a vacuum.

No throttle plate on a diesel, since they regulate fuel rather than air. So no vacuum in the intake.

I think the NA diesel one would flow better.

Best intake manifold money can buy for any IDI ou VP/PD TDI engine and they are really cheap over British or German eBay! ;)
