Has anyone replaced their door striker pins in their? The plastic (nylon?) bushings on mine are all worn and chewed up. Anyone replaced them with new ones? I found these from China pretty cheap. Anyone used something similar? Will it make the door lock action better/smoother or is it a waste of time/ money?

Yeah, they make a big difference... less rattle, easier opening/closing.

Don't have enuf to make $75 for free shipping from Autohaus. Called NAPA and they are $2 ea. Will be here in a day or 2. I've been getting a lot of windnoise coming thru the doors.. I adjusted the striker pins a bit tighter and it quieted the wind noise a bit. I'll do a more thorough adjustment when the strikers arrive.
I also took all the door handles off and cleaned and lubed them. Some were getting stuck. Fixed now.
My driver's door hinge is a bit worn and the door sags a bit. Any easy neat fix for it? I greased them up also.

Mine are unmovable with any wrench I have...what's the best option for breaking them loose? I haven't done heat yet but I didn't want to damage the door paint. Thanks in advance.

A deep impact socket might get it. If you are concerned the captive plates inside will tear out, you could try penetrating oil from the inside... taking off the trim and other parts to get access. Drilling a small hole even, could save a bigger headache later.

Mine loosened easily with a 1/2" ratchet and a 15 mm deep impact socket. After loosened them a 1/4 turn, I used a punch and hammer on the fender washer to adjust the striker's position, then tighten the striker bolt.

Mine seem to be 14mm (...look to be from the factory by plating and worn plastic sleeve). My 14mm deep socket will not go over the head of the striker pin and I didn't try 15mm as I didn't want to slip on the hex part of the pin. If 15mm fits over the head, I guess I'll try striking the pin with a hammer, wet with some PB blaster, and then hit it with the impact gun at top power...

If they are 14mm, a 15mm will trash the hex. I'd grind down the nubbin or cut it off, to get the 14mm on properly.

I don't think VW is dumb enough to design a striker that can only be used with an open end wrench.

lol... VW has done some truly silly shyte. The door handles themselves are a fail waiting to happen.
The 14mm strikers ring a bell, I think I had em on my 77 Rabbit many years ago.

Really? What can I expect from the door handles? I just cleaned and greased them and they're ok for now anyway.

Because the latch works get full of debris and moisture, MK1/MK2 "triggers" break when the latches get stiff or frost/ice gets behind the trigger. They can break either at the narrow neck or the thin flanges that go around the lock cracks. The bellcrank tends to wallow and get sloppy.

My striker hex is definitely 15 mm, as I remember, I tried fitting a 14 mm 6 point deep impact socket over the striker head and it wouldn't go over it, so I tried a 6 point 15 mm deep impact and that fit perfect down to the hex. I just tried a 12 point 14 mm box wrench and it went over the striker head fine but did not fit the hex, which is 15 mm. So there you have it.

I just replaced all 4 of mine today… $0.94 a piece from rock auto.
Im sure they're are other brands that are better built, but from what i've seen so far, they look decent. Obviously the weak link is the nylon insert, but only time will tell.

As a temporary, I just cut a piece of clear tubing, split it and put it around the pin. Add a little electrical tape to keep it from falling off. Seemed to do the trick. I'll have to look into replacing them though......later !!!
