Title: Mk2 1.6 alternator belt change
Post by: nissannx on November 24, 2014, 06:10:34 pm
I need to change my belt and I can't find a good walk through online. It's a 1.6 na with power steering. Which bolt do I remove on my power steering pump?

Thanks

So it looks like 5 bolts plus one hidden one for a total of 6 I need to loosen?

Thanks!

Five, I would say... the nut #24 near the marking #10 is partnered with pivot-bolt #18.

If you are trying to change your alternator belt:
Remove the crank pully,.. especially if you have AC.

I don't have ac. How hard is it to replace the crank pulley with a belt on It under tension?

Does your power steering belt also drive the water pump?

The belt drive system on these cars are the biggest kluge ever. Replacing the alt belt on an AC and power steering equipped car was a 2 to 3 hour nightmare each time the alt belt stretched out (average 5k miles for me), until I got rid of the AC compressor. Now I do not have to worry anymore when it will happen again.

My water pump and power steering are together and my alternator is alone. I'm going to tackle it this week. I got a Kevlar belt from the tractor store. I hope it doesn't stretch out
