Title: aaz solid lifter conversion
Post by: vako on July 09, 2014, 02:58:19 pm
hello, after a bit of searching i was not able to find a thread about solid lifter conversion.

does anyone know if these lifters will fit my aaz engine?

http://hansdieselparts.com/056109311ASolidLifter.htm

i have a terrible lifter tick and i want to solve this problem once and for all :D i do not have problem checking the gap every 30 000 or 40 000 kilometers (its more than 2-3 years of driving for me).

I can't answer, but I did chuckle at hearing a lifter tick over the clatter of an old VW diesel.

What cam would you use? Solid lifter cams usually have a different lobe profile than hydraulic cams.

Pretty sure the valves aren't the same length on solid engines versus hydraulic...

Also you don't want ANY parts from that website in your car. Search for "Prothe" and you'll find out more.

Yes i've heared about famous prothe, but still i have ip pump front seal from him an it has been workin well for last two years. :D solid lifter is the thing where nothing can go wrong so i thougt that if these lifters fit my car i could buy use them.

As for the sound from the lifters yesterday after hard driving near the red line lifters were knocking like crazy :((( after the oil cooled down they became a bit quieter, but the the biggest problem is the car bucking at 2000 rpm on and off throttle. The last time when i checked the lifters on recently stoped car most of them werecompressing under finger pressure. So i think that different valve opening height on difeerent cylinders causes the engine to buck at certain point....  I even had a thread about that problem but after excluding almost everything i left with lifters. If they do not help than i'll get a new ip pump :D

You can not use those lifters solid lifter head valves are 10mm longer. I used Nissan 1,7 diesel lifter in my 1,9 head. You also need cam shaft with solid lifter profile.

It comes out that i better get new hydro lifters. As i do not have much free time for exeriments (as i had 4 years ago, when i swapped my vitarawith aaz engine).    Where would you recomend me buying those?

only thing needed is nissan lifters and a solid lifter cam?

using solid lifter on hidraulic head or vice-versa would have any benefit,or is it even possible?

Nissan lifters use same adjusting shims than vw. I have had bad luck with hydraulic lifters, thats why I wanted mechanical lifters. I also have custom grind camshaft, cams will interchange from head to head.

What Nissan engine code? Got the part no on those lifters?

Just put in the lifters, a mech cam, adjust clearance with shims and good to go?
