Title: Mech head on hydro block
Post by: Dakotakid on May 06, 2014, 12:23:10 pm
I need to hear a response from someone who actually did this.
My question is, exactly how did you block off (what did you use) the coolant port on the mech head?

No, it will not be either of these two heads. I am trying to forego the whole welding shut/machining hassle.
Yes, there was a thread several years ago on this.....differing views.

Who ACTUALLY did this? Not all that interested in arm-chair quarterbacks!
Thank you.

I did it.  The car has been running fine for about 8 years now.  I can't remember which gasket was used but nothing was done to the head.  So imo, anything you do to block that port will work fine.  Couple simple ideas would be a frost plug or tapping the hole and using a pipe thread plug.

Thank you. I picked up an aluminum 3/8 inch plug this afternoon. Plan to drill, tap, and set plug. Will also plug the block. Can't wait. Love mechanical things!

I did NOT realize a 3/8 plug is NOT 3/8 inch. I learned something for the day.

Somewhat dark to see. Challenge is zeroing out the hole to get started.
