Hey everybody,
I know this is a basic question, but where is the engine code on MK1 diesels. I'm going to hunt for a 81 or newer 1.6NA for my turbo project. Just want to make sure I don't grab a pre '81 block somebody stuffed into a newer car. Thanks for the help,
Mike

um,same place as an a2,,,,or its below, and to the right ofwhere the notches are on the head gasket,,if you still see that part of the gasket,,,,,,below front water outlet on head,,on the block,,,in the # 3 cylinder area,,hope that will explain better,,,bring some sandpaper, and maybe a wire brush to read it,and then you only really need the first 2 letters

Anyone have a listing of the Engine Codes ??
How does one differentiate between a 1.5 and a 1.6 blocks and heads ??
