Hi
So the situation is this....
no heat... and appearance of no circulation of coolant...
I thought it was the thermostat......
nooooooooooo, it is not....put a new one in..
Now.... I did just do a head gasket...
and I ran it for about 500 miles....
and it seemed ok....
How about methodology on filling RAD
the system with anti-freeze... I mean
I thought I did alright,,,
I disconnected the feed heat hose
to the heater core.. and poured
in antifreeze at the top hose connection
at the radiator..... till it poured out hose
near heater core..... andthen filled
radiator with a little 90 degree bend tube,,,,
I dont think I have 7 quarts in there,,,,
So if I run it for a while... It willl overheat...
and when it is overheated.... the top hose
will be hot.... and the return on the heater
core will be hot.,,,,, and the bottom rad
hose will be cold... and the feed to core
will be cold also.........
Any suggestions?

Hrrrmmm...
T-stat should have a little rivet or hole in the rim to let air bleed through.
I usually fill most the way with the block outlet->rad hose. Add more via the expansion tank. The air should purge via the small tube into the top of the tank... it will pee and sputter while air is purging. Check that the small tube is not blocked. Takes a while for most the air to purge.
Some 90,91 water pumps had a two-sheave pulley that one sheave acted as an idler for the AC & alternator, and another sheave would drive the PS pump. With that pulley, the PS belt must be on to get coolant circulation.

Is there a flow of coolant through the small line going into the resevoir?

** Not sure what you are asking regarding flow.....
What I can say is that I can pour in through the reservior......
I will take a closer look
as a side note when it is running if the thermostat is closed
it should still pump through the 3/4 hose up to the heater core...
and it does not do this.....
I am going out and looking at it..... let you know what I find
regarding the reservior

You can check if the impeller is loose by shoving a screwdriver into the impeller through bottom opening and turning the pulley... some folks have seen loose impellers, I have not.
The stock setup has a bleeder hose from the upper radiator hose to the rez neck... it should constantly piss into the rez.

It can look like it's spinning... but if no PS belt, overheat.

zactly. There is a restrictor in that small line and it can get pluggeed. Air gets trapped in block.
Otherwise if that line isn't clogged you should be able to fill the whole cooling system through the resevoir.

So this is the story...
I pulled the water pump...
and here is a picture..... or two...
It is a Bosch water pump... I
put in about 70 k miles ago.....
"Planned Obsolescence"..
So it is a plastic impeller that
looks like it was bonded (james bonded)
to a knurled Shaft............
What is interesting in this hole
schpiel.... Is that I perhaps had
a problem with this before even
the head gasket..... And the reason
I say this... I that I would have this
strange thing... happen with the heat
which was .... At Idle.... there was
no heat...... and I am wondering if
perhaps at idle the impeller was
completely slipping.......
Anyway, it doesn't really matter..
but, I would consider the possibility
in the future when... trouble shooting
bizarre heat problems.......
I myself will check the construction
of the new pump I get..... AND
hopefully, I don't have to purchase
one that is constructed with a plastic
impeller that is sort of bonded(like this one)
to the shaft......
I mean really what would it have cost
them to put splines,,,, or even a set screw
what would Bosch have to spend to do
it right?

The good news is, you definitely found the problem.

I had a Bosch do the same. The warranty replacement Bosch now has a stamped steel impeller.

It is good that I can perhaps
see light at the end of the tunnel
regarding this one.....
So Bosch has a warranty replacement?
What did you have to do to get that..... ;D

I bought it at a local brick and mortar store. Easy returns.
Bosch has a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty, but if I had to ship it back and wait to see if they'd honor it, it's not worth my time.
I rarely buy parts like this online. Only maintenance/tune up parts or brand names that I can't get locally without being bent over.
