I have only had the pleasure of timing a handful of motors over the years, and I am still nervous about doing it. That being said I wanted to see if it is possible to accurately set the timing on my 1.6 idi motor while it is still sitting on my engine stand.
I do have the locking pin for the injector pump, and I also have the plate for the back of the cam. Without the use of the timing mark on the flywheel... is it possible to accurately set the timing.

I second that! Works like a charm. Watching the fluid move in the tube is identical to watching the piston move in the barrel. The great thing is you can leave the head on ;)
